Green Party wants Darleen Tana gone from Parliament

The Green Party is pushing for its MP, Darleen Tana, to quit Parliament - now that it has the results from its investigation after Stuff revealed connections between her and migrant exploitation allegations at her husband’s bike shop.

The party met on Saturday and asked Tana to resign. The party said that the entire caucus was unanimous in their request that Tana resign.

“Darleen spoke to the Caucus and was given the opportunity to answer questions from MPs. She then left the meeting to allow her colleagues to consider the report’s findings," said Green co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick in a statement.

She said Tana had not been upfront with the party during the candidate selection process and campaign.

"Darleen’s actions are completely at odds with our party’s values, policies and kaupapa," Swarbrick said.

In a statement, co-leader Marama Davidson - who is on leave - said Tana had not been transparent with the party.

“We are deeply disappointed that Darleen Tana has not been forthcoming about very serious breaches of Green Party kaupapa, and has not acknowledged nor taken accountability for the impact of her behaviour on others," Davidson said.

Tana has not yet commented.

More to come.
