Transport Minister Simeon Brown has published the Government’s new transport plan, confirming car registration fees will increase by $50 to pay for a $22 billion transport plan.
Having consulted on the Government Policy Statement on land transport for months, Brown on Thursday afternoon produced the finalised plan, which now counts 17 four-lane “Roads of National Significance” and 11 “Roads of Regional Significance” among projects to be funded by the National Land Transport Fund.
Broadly, the Government has confirmed its focus on major road building at the expense of some public transport, walking and cycling improvements being prioritised by the prior Labour Government.
