Oranga Tamariki has proposed disestablishing 447 roles, according to a source at the ministry.
Ministry boss Chappie Te Kani is currently leading an all staff meeting, discussing how Oranga Tamariki plans to meet the Government's cost cutting directive.
From that meeting, a source has told Stuff that the ministry was proposing to disestablish 447 roles.
Oranga Tamariki employed about 4600 full-time staff at the end of last year.
Te Kani said only "back office" roles would be disestablished.
If this proposal goes ahead, Oranga Tamariki would be undertaking the largest restructure proposed so far as part of the ongoing cost savings taking place across the public service.
The ministry has been approached for comment and confirmation.
