Luxon believes he can win support from Māori
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says he does not believe protests will continue throughout the term, as he believes his Government will earn the support of Māori.
As activists and Te Pāti Māori plan for nationwide protests on Tuesday, to mark the return of Parliament, Luxon said his Government would "deliver for Māori".
He said six years of a Labour Government had delivered a harder social and economic reality for Māori, which Luxon said would be rectified under his Government.
In response to numerous coalition promises, including removing Te Tiriti o Waitangi from legislation and scaling back the use of te reo Māori in the public service, political leaders from across te ao Māori have vowed to fight the Government before it implements these changes.
But Luxon said he did not expect protests to continue.
"I don't think the last six years have been good for Māori and I think Māori have done very well under National governments in the past," he said.
