New and former climate ministers to attend global forum

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says Cabinet has approved travel for new climate minister Simon Watts and former climate minister, Green co-leader James Shaw, to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).

COP starts on Thursday, in the United Arab Emirates.

Given the recent change of government, there had been uncertainty about who would represent Aotearoa at the major climate change event.

Luxon said it was "really important" to be at the global forum.

There has been some criticism, globally, about the UAE - a major fossil fuel producer - hosting a climate change forum.
