The role of Weet-Bix
The exchange of Weet-Bix jibes between ACT leader David Seymour and incoming Prime Minister Christopher Luxon was "a sign that we actually have a very positive relationship, and that we have a sense of humour", Seymour says.
He recounted an anecdote during an interview on AM on Wednesday suggesting that humour might be spreading.
"Last night I had to pick up my partner from a pub quiz after work, and I got in there and they said, speaking of Weet-Bix that there was actually a pub quiz team called Too Much Weet-Bix," Seymour said.
"So, I think a lot of people can see the humour in it."
Seymour started the Weet-Bix ball rolling after Luxon said the coalition trio were in agreement over policy. Seymour remarked Luxon was over-enthused and had eaten “one too many Weet-Bix”.
Luxon returned fire with a Weet-Bix dig at Seymour, who he said should keep “commentary” and “conjecture” to the negotiation room.
"[Seymour] probably got out and ate a lot of Weet-Bix this morning I'd just say. That's great because Weet-Bix powers this nation and it's a great product, by the way,” Luxon said.
In Wednesday morning's interview, Seymour also lamented his ability to predict the future.
"I'm someone who, for the last few weeks, has got burned by predicting exactly when things happen." He was going to have to close his TAB account because he was in overdraft, Seymour joked.
"So I'm not going to make any more bets on the exact timing.
"But, look I think you can see from the pattern of different stages of it being signed off, that now it genuinely is very close."
