'Final stages' of negotiations dragging on

There's up to three "difficult" and "complex" issues left for the incoming governing parties to get through - and they weren't sorted today.

Both Christopher Luxon and Winston Peters left The Cordis on Sunday looking slightly less chipper than they arrived for their meeting.

Luxon anticipated being in Auckland for at least the next few days. Luxon previously said he said he would "imagine we'd want to to go to Wellington to do a full media event there and a full announcement there" once a deal had been formed.

"We've got a couple of issues, I'd call it one, two, or three maybe issues, one or two," Luxon said.

"They're tough and they're complex, and we're going to continue talking about them."

"I'm in the room with those leaders making sure that we can deal with serious issues for New Zealanders."

Luxon said his meeting with Peters was "helpful", adding the rest of the meetings today would be online or over the phone instead of in person.

That rules out any three-way in person meeting between the parties today.

Last night, Luxon did not rule out all three leaders getting into the same room.
“I'm not sure at this point,” he told reporters. “It is a little bit different.”

Asked this morning if he anticipated another three-way meeting soon, Peters said it was "entirely possible".
