Police spent hours interviewing people in Timaru who’d met Dickason just days prior, in some cases for minutes, and did not interview Lauren’s brother, sister, and other close family members, who could’ve given helpful context about their life, Beaton said.
They collated messages sent by Dickason that they considered relevant to the case, and left out a number of messages that painted her in a more positive light, the lawyer told the jury.
Of the 300,000-odd messages retrieved, 700-odd were included as part of the Crown’s messaging booklet, and from a specific time frame the police chose to focus on, she said.
