Family moved to NZ because she wanted a better life for the children - defence
Dickason’s fixation on her children was not just limited to their safety, Beaton said. She was highly concerned with their feelings and emotions at all times.
The family moved to New Zealand because she wanted a better life for the children, her lawyer said.
“Lauren Dickason was a woman who wanted to give her children the best life she could…she wants a simpler life…can’t wait for them to ride their bikes in the street”.
She had a very strong worry that the world was an unsafe place, and with how unwell she was, this perception got worse when they arrived in Timaru, Beaton said.
“It’s no better, no safer than what they left…they’re here and alone, no support”.
Dickason told her husband that she was having thoughts of harming the children right before moving to New Zealand. He reacted angrily and told her to snap out of it, Beaton noted.
“The one person she trusted didn’t listen to her…from her perspective, who could she tell?”
