Postpartum depression was at best only a minimal contributor - Crown

The clearest evidence of Dickason’s recovery was her account that she was feeling “the best I’d felt in years” by March 2021, McRae told the jury.

Defence psychologist Ghazi Metoui referenced this in his report and initially found that he agreed it seemed Dickason had recovered, but then “backtracked” from that opinion, McRae said.

Meouti explained he’d placed too much weight on Dickason’s account.

McRae suggested that if he backtracked on this opinion, what else could be of contention in his evidence, and Dickason’s account to him.

“You can be sure her mind was not disturbed as a result of the effect of childbirth”.

Postpartum depression was at best only a minimal contributor, McRae said, which would also not return a defence of infanticide, the prosecutor said.

“It was as a matter of common sense, long gone…she acted in anger here when she killed the children”.
