Swedish Greens ahead of far-right, Liberals avoid catastrophe: Exit poll
The Swedish Greens are unexpectedly ahead of the far-right Sweden Democrats (SD, ECR) in the European elections, while Sweden's two liberal parties are likely to retain their MEPs, according to the exit poll by the national broadcaster SVT.
The Social Democrats confirmed their position as the first party in Sweden with 23.1%. However, if the election result stands, it would be the party's worst EU election result ever. The second-largest party in the poll is Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's Moderates (EPP) at 17.3%.
The Green Party won 15.7%t, according to SVT, followed by the Sweden Democrats (SD) who got 13.9%, less than in the last EU election.
Sweden's EU campaign has been dominated by an SD-related far-right troll factory scandal as Swedish broadcaster
TV4 revealed earlier this month that the Sweden Democrats had used numerous anonymous accounts to spread social media content favourable to its views, sometimes
at the expense of its coalition allies.
The Liberals are the smallest party at 4.2%, according to the poll but they manage to keep their MEP by remaining above the 4% mark, just like the Centre party (Renew Europe), which managed to get 7.2%.
